Valley Sol Series featuring ALLANA SOUTHERLAND

As a native of Jacksonville, Florida and a female saxophonist, Allana Southerland has made constant progressions in the music industry.  She started playing clarinet in 7th-grade, and by the time she graduated from college she was playing piano, clarinet, flute and tenor, also soprano sax.

Allana is definitely gifted in the smooth sound of the saxophone. Her style of jazz and new-soul vibe, with her group, Fusion, is synonymous with that of Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright and Najee. Allana has performed all over the country and shared the stage with such legends as the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars, Dave Brubeck, Beyonce, Fantasia, Charlie Wilson, Herbie Hancock, Paul Jackson Jr, and many more.

Labeled as a one-of-a-kind artist by the Florida media, Allana also graduated from the University of North Florida, with a Bachelor in Music degree, as the only female saxophonist in the Jazz Studies program, with studies in Jazz Theory and Jazz Arranging, and was on the Dean's List, a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and held an office in Sigma Alpha Iota, a music sorority.

Allana is also the creator of Party in a Box, a new concept by The Fusion Band of blending sax, drums, background tracks, and added instruments to create the sound of the future.  It is a concept providing a R&B, Jazz, and Top 100’s band with a unique sound.  They have performed concerts, festivals, cruise ships, corporate events, all over the world! The band has opened for Dizzy Gillespie All stars, Three dog night, Charlie Wilson, MC Hammer, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Norman Brown and Fantasia!

Allana teaches private lessons in her spare time and is a wife and mother to 2 beautiful children. She is currently working on her Master's Degree.
