About the event

HomeBase Poetry brings you a special 2 man show event.  Bay area national poetry artists Prentice Powell and Shawn William bring their live performance of "For Your Consideration '24" Tour to HomeBase Poetry Open Mic.  With the introduction of the Best Spoken Word Poetry Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards, this album will be in the running for next year's Grammy consideration.

ABOUT THE TOUR

"For Your Consideration" is a celebration of brotherhood, and a two-decade tutorial in spoken word craftsmanship mixed with ‘Black Boy Joy.’  It speaks eloquently on fatherhood, depression, relationships, home and street life, childhood trauma, love, and heartache in a way never touched before by any artists. After multiple sold-out shows in Oakland, CA, and Hollywood, CA, Prentice & Shawn have taken their two-man show on the road with a 16-city tour across the country, to promote their new Live Album “For Your Consideration,” while showing the world what levels can be reached when words mix with passion.

THEIR STORY

Prentice Powell and Shawn William’s first time on stage together didn’t start in brotherhood, but competition. They met outside the legendary Black Box in Oakland, CA, practicing their craft and noticing each other’s work ethic. After that magical night, the bond formed. That bond has turned into a 20-year journey of friendship and a professional relationship, featuring on stages and platforms individually and together around the world.

As individuals, Prentice Powell and Shawn William have laid a solid foundation for many spoken word artists to follow but together, they are not only electrifying - they also push each other to raise the bar. Their chemistry on stage is not only mesmerizing it’s also heartfelt playing off each other perfectly

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Prentice Powell approaches every stage performance from London to South Africa polished, precise, and professional - sharing his gift while allowing his art to speak for itself. Prentice has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, The Roots, Sevyn Streeter, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, and alongside his fellow Fiveology members, opened for Jill Scott during her Summer 2013 tour.  Prentice is a distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and he is the only spoken word artist to have appeared on all six seasons of Versus & Flow.

Shawn William approaches every stage from San Quentin State Prison to Toronto passionate, vulnerable, and raw - taking his audiences on an emotional rollercoaster with wordplay and vivid storytelling that is unmatched.  Shawn is a founding member of Fiveology who toured with Grammy Award winner Jill Scott and were featured on Verses and Flow, The Arsenio Show, The ESPY’s, Radio City Music Hall & The Apollo.
